Fix2Own is an after-school program is designed to give youth hands-on experience to learn about bike mechanics and safety. In a 5-session workshop, the youth work with volunteer bike mechanics to fix donated bikes. Each participant fixes their bike and gets to keep it (some of this bikes will be used in the “Adopt a Bike” Program). The repairs include patching and replacing tubes, wheel and tire work, cable and gear repairs, chain repair and replacement, seat and handlebar adjustments, safety and awareness. Mechanics explain their work during real time to the youth, deepening their understanding of bike repair and maintenance. The Fix-2-Own program is a direct way to serve the needs of the Nogales/Santa Cruz County youth, providing them functioning bicycles and a greater knowledge of bike repair and the use of it.
Our after-school Bike Club program inspires the next generation of riders in Nogales/Santa Cruz County, Arizona. In Bike Club, youth earn their own bike and develop important skills to help them navigate through life. The kids who participate in Bike Club do not have access or the means to afford safe bikes on their own. In Bike Club, youth have a chance to learn safe riding and maintenance techniques within a supportive group of peers and instructors. Bike Club is about more than just earning a bike; participants also develop teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership skills by working and learning together. After completing our Bike Club program, participants go home with a refurbished bicycle, new lock, basic tools, patch kit, and helmet. Youth finish program with the knowledge and tools to ride safely and the confidence to share their new skills with their community. For more information abouth this and other programs, please contac us by inbox or at: firstname.lastname@example.org
